Petition statement

WHEREAS

Recent news has demonstrated that the sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests is far more widespread than previously believed, with cases likely numbering in the tens of thousands; and

WHEREAS

It has come to light that Pope Benedict XVI, when serving as Prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, knowingly and intentionally kept information about known pedophiles from the proper authorities and permitted these known pedophiles to continue in the priesthood and in contact with children;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT

We, the undersigned, demand that Pope Benedict XVI be extradited from the Vatican to Germany and the United States to stand trial for obstruction of justice, accessory to statutory rape and child abuse after the fact, and endangerment of juveniles.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT

We, the undersigned, demand that an independent international investigation be launched into the Roman Catholic Church to determine the extent of abuses and bring the perpetrators and their protectors to justice in criminal court.
